Discover the wonders of the night sky as you learn to identify constellations like the Big Bear, Cygnus the Swan, and Pegasus the Winged Horse while hearing the fascinating stories behind them. View Saturn, star clusters, galaxies, and other celestial objects through giant telescopes, with live color images from video telescopes. Participants will receive star maps, constellation charts, website and app recommendations, and a practical telescope buying guide.
If skies are cloudy or rainy, the class moves indoors for an engaging presentation featuring stunning astrophotography, stargazing tips, and the latest telescope technology. Weather permitting, telescopes will also be available outside for "land gazing" and other fun viewing activities.
Mike Lynch is a retired WCCO Radio meteorologist and has been hosting star parties and teaching astronomy classes for over 50 years. He also writes a weekly stargazing column for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and is the author of the book “Stars, a Month by Month Tour of the Constellations.” It’ll be available for purchase at the program.
